High Intensity Discharge or Xenon is the latest in automotive lighting technology. Rather than relying on a simple filament in an inert gas or vacuum to to simply get hot and produce light, HID bulbs are specially produced with two conductors and filled with ionized Xenon gas. When this electrical current flows though the gas a very bright and pure light is emitted. Changing the chemical composition allows for different wavelengths or color temperatures of light to be produced. This is how the newest Xenon lamps on most high end cars often appear to have a slightly blueish hue.
Rather then simply being able to install a new bulb in your 12 volt system a ballast or high voltage transformer is needed. To excite the Xenon gas takes voltages in excess of 20,000 volts, but then requires a much lower 80 volts to stay lit. However even at these higher voltages HID lamps require often 35% less electrical energy to run. A traditional lamp often is rated at 50 watts, however a digital HID ballast only requires 35 watts. This means everything in the system is plug and play, and no additional wiring is installed.
By implementing digital controls in the ballast you can be assured that the proper current is being delivered to the bulb at all times as well as maintaining the correct color temperature. This increases the electrical efficiency of the system, which in turn reduces the heat that is generated. Just like computers, heat is the fastest killer of these systems and the reason that many of the "eBay Specials" floating around have numerous issues and short lives. An HID system of this quality will in all likelihood exceed the life of the car. (2500-4000 hours)

COLOR TEMPERATURES
Color temperature is a measurement in Kelvin (K) that indicates the hue of the light source. All HIDs are so bright they are gauged to sunlight and the color that the sun will be at that temperature. As the color temperature increases, the light output of the HID is reduced.
• 10,000K = Deep blue (less visible light more color)
• 8,000K = Aqua blue
• 6,000K = Bright-white
• 5,000K = white (peak light output)
• 3,000K = gold-yellow (JDM yellow)

Note: - Cars 2003 and Newer as well as some cars with an on-board display system which provides a notification will require a special filter if you do not wish for this error to be displayed. This message has no affect on the performance of the lights, however is an added annoyance.
