While only the 240, 280, and 300 Series models where officially sold in the United States, the entire product line was eventually imported by gray market companies as well as private buyers.
The 240D Diesel, version of the 123 is considered one of the most robust IDI diesel and TD Engines on the market and is very popular for bio diesel and SVO conversions. The engines low power output combined with a large heavy crankcase contribute to its longevity as well as ability to run a variety of low quality fuels. For those looking for a little more powerful version Mercedes also made the 300D in the 123 chassis, these engines product 80-88 hp, and the Turbodiesel model 118-123, these engines before 1985 are considered indestructible when running biofuel conversions.
